Shotcut How To Add Transitions

You can add transitions like cross dissolves and wipes between videos and images for free using Clipchamp Create. Just start a project, add your files to the timeline, then select the Transition menu on the left hand side and drag and drop a transition between two clips.

You can also add a fade in or fade out to a video, audio or image clip by selecting it in the timeline and using the Fade In/Out tab.

For detailed instructions and screen shots, see below:

______________

How to add a transition

To add transitions between videos or images, start a Create project and make sure you've added your videos to the timeline, then:

On the left hand side bar of your project, click on Transition.

2. Drag a transition and drop it between two videos

There are a variety of transition types in the menu – hover your mouse over one to see what it looks like. Once you've chosen a transition, drag it into the timeline and drop it between 2 video or image clips.

NOTE : The clips must be on the same line in the timeline for you to be able to add a transition between them. If there is any blank space between the clips the transition will not be added.

After you've added the transition, an icon will appear between the clips, like this:

3. Click on the transition in the timeline to edit it

If you want to make changes, click on the icon between the clips and a menu will appear above or near the preview screen where you can see the name of the transition, and change the duration.

For example, to make the transition longer or shorter, just drag the slider under Duration.

4. Play back your video

You can play your video back in the preview window to see how the transition looks and make further adjustments.

___________

How to add a fade in or out

To add a fade to a video, image or audio clip, make sure you've added the clip to the timeline, then:

1. Click on a clip in the timeline to select it

The clip will be highlighted when selected, and a menu will appear in the top left of the editor:

In the menu that appears, click the Fade In/Out tab. You will see two sliders:

3. To fade in, drag the upper slider to the right

Drag the FADE IN slider to the right to add a fade at the start of your clip. The number on the right indicates how long the fade will be. The maximum length is 2 seconds.

4. To fade out, drag the lower slider to the right

Drag the FADE OUT slider to the right if to add a fade at the end of your clip. The number on the right indicates how long the fade will be. The maximum length is 2 seconds.

5. Play back your video

You can play your video clip back in the preview window to see how the fade looks and sounds, and make further adjustments.

___________

How to fade audio or music

An audio fade works the same way as a video fade. Simply select the audio file in the timeline, go to the Fade In/Out menu and follow the same steps as above.

NOTE: The audio of a video clip will always fade together with the video when a fade effect is applied. It is not currently possible to adjust the fade setting of a video and its connected audio separately.

___________

Removing a fade effect or transition

You can remove a fade at any time by clicking on the clip in the timeline, opening the Fade In/Out menu, and dragging the sliders back to their original position on the left hand side.

To remove a transition, simply click select the transition in the timeline (the icon between the two clips) and hit the delete key or the trash icon.
